Frequently Asked Questions
We need to know which library system you are trying to access. Most systems will require OpenAthens authentication and for you to use your WMU account to log in.
The library contents can only be accessed by those who have a valid and current WMU account.
After graduation, your student account is marked as inactive. Inactive accounts do not have access to any subscribed library content however some material collected on Maritime Commons remains open access for all.
Once you've searched for the material you need in OneSearch and found the title you are looking for, click the option for PDF, Epub or full-text finder link in order to read it online.
Downloading ebooks requires extra software that you will need to install on your computer that the library does not support. For these reasons we advise users to read ebooks online rather than downloading them, this can be done via the PDF or epub option.
Some of your reading material will not be available through OneSearch. Some of the titles can be found freely available online, others will need to be accessed through databases that are not indexed in OneSearch and will have to be searched separately.
Most of the library databases in the database list are accessed via your WMU account. In order to get to the login screen you must sometimes choose OpenAthens login and search for your institution, World Maritime University. Your credentials will only ever work on a Google login screen. Unless you are a student on the Shanghai or Dalian campuses, you will be prompted to access with your Gmail account. If you are a Shanghai or Dalian student, you will login to OpenAthens with your email and password
